IT'S A MIXED USE REDEVELOPMENT, APPROXIMATELY 52 ACRES WITH OFFICE SPACES, RESIDENCES IN A CENTRAL LAWN DESIGNED FOR COMMUNITY GATHERINGS. HER ART'S BEEN SHOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD AND INCLUDES MASSIVE INSTALLATIONS IN AND ON BUILDINGS FROM VENICE, ATLANTA, LONDON, NEW ORLEANS. SHE'S BEEN, SHE'S BEEN TO A LOT OF PLACES, SO WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE POSSIBLY HAVE A PIECE OF ART HERE. WE TOOK THEM THROUGH PUBLIC ART REVIEW. THE PIECE WAS ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED TO MOVE FORWARD, APPROVED AS PROPOSED. AND WITH THAT, I'M GONNA LET BEN STEP UP AND KIND OF WALK YOU THROUGH. GREAT TO MEET YOU ALL. THE EXISTING BUILDING IS A 550,000 SQUARE FOOT OFFICE BUILDING, FORMERLY OWNED BY HEWLETT PACKARD, UH, NOW OWNED BY US. UH, WE WENT THROUGH AN ENTITLEMENTS PROCESS IN 2022, RECEIVED FULL ENTITLEMENTS FOR THE SITE. UM, THAT INCLUDED A REPOSITIONING RENOVATION OF THE EXISTING BUILDING, UH, WHICH WE CAN DISCUSS. AND THIS WHERE DEANNA'S INSTALLATION WOULD WOULD GO, UM, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER OFFICE PARCELS, A MULTIFAMILY SITE IN THE HEART OF THIS SITE AND A SINGLE FAMILY SITE. AND A LOT OF THIS KIND OF ON THE EAST END OF THE SITE RIGHT NOW IS, IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. UM, AND THIS GIVES YOU KIND OF AN IDEA OF WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR, WHAT THE SITE WILL LOOK LIKE. RIGHT NOW, WE'VE SUCCESSFULLY REPOSITIONED THAT OFFICE BUILDING, RENOVATED EVERYTHING, MADE A FOCAL POINT, WHICH WE CALL THE PUB. THERE'S A PUBLIC PASSAGE THAT RUNS THROUGH IT. WE CUT THROUGH THE BUILDING. UM, SO ONE COULD WALK FROM THE CORNER OF WINDWARD WEST SIDE THROUGH OUR, THROUGH THE PATH IN THE WOODS HERE, UH, THROUGH THE PUBLIC PASSAGE AND INTO THE REST OF THE SITE. OBVIOUSLY SOME OF THAT IS PREDICATED ON FUTURE DEVELOPMENT, VILLAGE GREEN, EVERYTHING ELSE. BUT, YOU KNOW, ALL OF THAT GOT BUILT UP FRONT. SO TO CITE THIS, UH, WHAT THIS IS HOVERING OVER THE INTERSECTION OF WINDWARD AND WEST SIDE. UH, THE KEY PIECE OF OUR REPOSITIONING AND REDEVELOPMENT OF THAT BUILDING WAS WHAT WE CALL THE CENTRAL BUILDING, [00:05:01] BUILDING C UH, WE REDID THE ENTIRE FACADE. UM, OBVIOUSLY A PUBLIC PASSAGE CUTS THROUGH IT. SO WE PUT OPERABLE GLASS, WHAT WE CALL NANO WALL SO THEY CAN STAY OPEN, PEOPLE CAN PASS THROUGH. WE'VE GOT A CAFE, SO AMENITY SPACES IN THE BUILDING. FUTURE RETAIL SITE RIGHT HERE. UM, FOCAL POINT HERE, WINDWARD WEST SIDE RIGHT NOW IS A TRAIL THAT GOES THROUGH THE TREES. UM, FUTURE WILL BE EITHER, YOU KNOW, COULD BE RETAIL, UH, BUT WHATEVER IT IS, IT WILL BE OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC THROUGH HERE. AND THEN DEANNA'S INSTALLATION WOULD GO RIGHT HERE ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING. UM, FOCAL POINT AT OUR PUBLIC PASSAGE ENTRY. HUGE SIGNIFICANCE ON OUR SITE, THE WAY FINDING EVERYTHING ELSE, GUIDING PEOPLE IN. UM, AND ALSO JUST BEING A PLACE PEOPLE COULD COME VISIT AND OBSERVE. UM, I'M CERTAIN MANY OF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH HER WORK. UH, WE, YOU KNOW, I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE WITNESSING THE INSTALLATION AT GEORGIA TECH. UM, OBVIOUSLY SHE HAS WORK ALL, ALL AROUND THE WORLD. NOTHING I SHOW YOU HERE IN THESE IMAGES, COULD DO HER WORK JUSTICE. BUT WE WILL GIVE YOU A FEW IDEAS OF WHAT THIS WILL LOOK LIKE ON THE FAC SIDE OF THE BUILDING. SO, STANDING ON WINDWARD PARKWAY, LOOKING BACK AT THE SITE, UM, YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE INSTALLATION IS. UM, IDEA OBVIOUSLY IS AT NIGHT. THIS GLOWS LIKE A BEACON. GREAT PART IS, THIS IS IN THE PUBLIC SPACE OF OUR BUILDING. SO LIGHTS ARE ON 24 7. THAT WON'T BE AN ISSUE. SO WE, WE LOVE THE IDEA THAT THIS IS ACTIVE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. UM, AND THEN A FEW KIND OF SUPERIMPOSED RENDERINGS OVER TOP OF SOME REAL PHOTOS OF THE AREA IN QUESTION. YOU CAN SEE A SHOT OF THAT PUBLIC PASSAGE THAT RUNS STRAIGHT THROUGH THE BUILDING AND HOW THIS SITS ADJACENT TO IT, CALLING ATTENTION TO THAT ENTRANCE, PLAYING A HUGE, HUGELY SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THIS PROJECT. AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT A CAFE INTERNAL WITH SOME OF OUR SEATING IN THERE. AND HOW, YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING LIGHT, HOW THIS WILL START TO CARRY THROUGH. SO THIS ACTUALLY WILL EXIST AS A DIGITAL FILE. AND CONTINUUM WILL HAS MADE THE COMMITMENT TO KEEP UP THE TECHNOLOGY. THE CITY OF ALFREDO CULTURAL SERVICES DIVISION PROPOSES A COMMUNITY PAINTED MURAL INSPIRED BY WACKY WORLD PLAYGROUND, COMMUNITY REBUILD MODEL, ENCOURAGING BOTH SKILLED AND UNSKILLED VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION. THE MURAL DESIGN EMPHASIZES, UH, NATURE PLAYFULNESS COMMUNITY COMPLETING BOTH THE ADJACENT PLAYGROUND, COMPLIMENTING, EXCUSE ME, THE, UH, ADJACENT PLAYGROUND AND ALL WILLS PARK PARTICIPANTS. SO IN DESIGNING THE MURAL, WE WANTED TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE PLAYFUL FOR THE CHILDREN, BUT THAT WOULD COMPLIMENT ANYONE THAT WAS COMING TO THE PLAYGROUND. I MEAN, EXCUSE ME, TO THE PLAYGROUND AND TO WILLS PARK TO USE THE PARK. SO WE WANTED IT TO, YOU'LL, YOU MAY SEE IT JUST DRIVING BY. WE WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO BE INSPIRED AND ENJOY THE MURAL. THE RETRAINING ROLE ADJACENT TO THE NEW PLAYGROUND IS 70 FEET AND ITS TALLEST IS 70 FEET IN LENGTH, AND AT ITS TALLEST, THE HEIGHT IS 4.5 FEET. UM, AND SO I WANTED TO THINK ABOUT PLAYFUL QUALITIES, BUT AT THE SAME TIME SOMETHING THAT COULD BE ENJOYED BY ALL. UM, I WAS ALSO OBVIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT THE FACT THAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS WERE GOING TO BE PAINTING THIS. SO THERE ARE ASPECTS THAT THEY WILL KIND OF FILL IN ALMOST LIKE A COLORING BOOK STYLE. UM, IT'LL BE ALMOST DRAWN OUT. UM, AND THEN THE SECTIONS THAT THEY WOULD PAINT WOULD KIND OF BE EDGED OFF. SO I WOULD START THE EDGING FOR THEM AND THEN THEY WOULD BASICALLY STAY IN THE LINES. IT'S ALMOST LIKE IF YOU OUTLINED SOMETHING AND THEN TOLD SOMEBODY TO GO AND FILL IT IN. UM, AND SO THEY'LL FILL IN THE MAJORITY OF THE COLORS AND THEN, UH, MYSELF ALONG WITH SOME OTHER ARTISTS, CORRECT FROM, WE'RE GONNA HAVE OUR ART STUDIO ON THE GO-GO INSTRUCTORS COME OUT AND GIVE SUPPORT WITH THE COMMUNITY AND ALONG WITH CITY STAFF TOO, WITH THE, AT THE ART CENTER STAFF. AND THEN I WOULD COME BACK AT THE END AND JUST MAKE SURE TO FINISH IT OFF, UM, BECAUSE I'VE DONE COMMUNITY PROJECTS BEFORE AND THINGS ALWAYS GET PAINTED THE WRONG COLOR IN ONE SECTION OR ANOTHER AND HAVE TO JUST BE CORRECTED ON THE BACK END. THERE WAS ONE POPPY FLOWER IN THE BOTTOM THAT NEEDED DOWN IN THIS AREA THAT NEEDED A SLIGHT VARIATION TO LOOK MORE LIKE A FLOWER. SO THE ARTIST ALICE MADE THAT ADJUSTMENT. THE OVERALL COST, AND THIS IS IN OUR OPERATING BUDGET, WILL BE ABOUT 4,500. THAT'S PAINT, SUPPLIES, DESIGN, EVERYTHING ALTOGETHER. AND WE, UM, WE'RE EXCITED TO MIMIC THIS AFTER WACKY WORLD. THIS WAS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WE SAW AS SOME OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS PRESENTED, WERE INVOLVED IN, THEY WERE INVOLVED IN AN OPEN CALL IN MIDTOWN ATLANTA WHERE THEY WERE ALLOWED TO SUBMIT DESIGNS FOR BANNERS THAT WERE GONNA BE, UM, INSTALLED ALONG STREETS IN MIDTOWN. AND IT WAS TO PROMOTE THE WALKABILITY AND ENGAGE THE PUBLIC AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME AND WALK AND ENGAGE IN THAT COMMUNITY. UM, NOW WE'RE, WE'RE NOT MIDTOWN, BUT WE DID REACH OUT TO THEM TO KIND OF, TO DISCUSS. AND THEY WERE, THEY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE GENEROUS WITH THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES AND SHARED EVERYTHING WITH US, UM, TO ENCOURAGE US TO DO THIS. UM, SO WE APPRECIATE THEIR PARTNERSHIP IN THIS. ANY PLACE WHERE WE SAW A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC IN ADDITION TO THE CAR TRAFFIC THAT WE ARE REALLY GOOD AT. , YES, WE HAVE PLENTY OF THAT, BUT THERE'S NOT A, NOT EVERY STREET THAT WE GO ON HAS A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC ON IT. SO THAT'S WHAT WE STARTED TO LOOK FOR. AND THEN AGAIN, THAT EXTRA LAYER OF FOCUSING ON THOSE CITY OWNED LAMPPOSTS, WHICH YOU FOUND OUT BY LOOKING FOR A STICKER AT THE BOTTOM OF EVERY LAMPPOST. SO WE WALKED, JUST TO BE CLEAR, WE DID A LOT OF WALKING TO MAKE SURE WE FOUND ALL THESE LAMPPOSTS. THIS LITTLE SCHEMATIC HERE IS NOT TO SCALE. WE JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE THAT THIS IS, UH, OUR, OUR RECOMMENDATION WE TO BE, TO PUT THIS INSTALLATION ON KIMBLE BRIDGE ROAD. AND IT WOULD BE BETWEEN NORTH POINT PARKWAY AND WATERS ROAD. WE PROPOSED 40 BANNERS WITH THIS INITIAL PROPOSAL, WHICH WOULD BE THE 38 ARTWORKS PLUS BOOKEND TITLE BANNERS ON EITHER END OF THIS COLLECTION. UM, SO THAT'S WHY THAT NUMBER WILL BE DIFFERENT AS WE TALK ABOUT THE SECOND, THE ALTERNATE LOCATION. SO ONLY ONE ARTWORK PER ARTIST. AGAIN, THIS WAS AS WE CONTINUE TO NARROW DOWN FROM THAT 180 3, YOU KNOW, HOW ARE WE GONNA, THERE WERE LOTS OF CRITERIA ABOUT, BUT THAT WAS ONE OF THEM. AND THEN AUSTIN ALPHARETTA HAS, HAS COMMITTED TO SUPPORT US, BUT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THAT THROUGH OTHER SPONSORSHIPS. SO THAT BANNER DESIGN IS ONE FOR YOUR REVIEW AND APPROVAL AS WELL, RIGHT? SO WE WERE MIRRORING THIS MIDTOWN FORMAT AND OUR INITIAL THINKING, WE WERE, WE PROPOSED THAT ALL OF THE BANNERS HAVE SORT OF A BLACK FRAME. THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT IDEA. IT WAS A GOOD IDEA. BUT THAT'S, I WANTED YOU TO KIND OF SEE WHILE WE MADE THE CHANGE FROM GOING FROM JUST A, A CONSISTENT TEMPLATE TO MAKING 'EM ALL UNIQUE AND FULL OF COLOR. ONE THING I DIDN'T KNOW IS WE WERE SITTING THERE AND ROCCO WAS PLAYING. HE IS 16 YEARS OLD AND HE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE. HE SOUND, I MEAN, JUST HIS DEMEANOR. ALL THE ARTISTS DID. BUT THE REASON WHY I'M POINTING THEM OUT, I WAS TOLD THAT EVENING THAT HIS FIRST SHOW HE EVER PLAYED WAS MUSIC MATCH WHEN HE WAS 11. OH. SO THAT'S A BIG DEAL FOR US JUST TO HAVE. AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT. AND LAURA WAS WORKING ON THE ADVERTISING. I DIDN'T KNOW IT UNTIL THAT NIGHT.
